PENTLAND ALPACA STUD AND ANIMAL FARM cnr Scotsdale & McLeod Rds, Denmark. District Map East N3
Pentland Alpaca Stud and Animal Farm is a hands-on animal farm and wildlife park where you can pat,
cuddle and feed a huge range of friendly and interesting animals. The
family-owned and operated farm opened in 1990 and as well as with 70 alpacas
(and babies) there are koalas, kangaroos, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens,
horses, donkey, deer, emus and aviary birds. Meet Tyson the North American
bison, Buffy the Asian water buffalo, Tess and King Lear the Scottish
Highland cattle, Muriel the pig, Foxy-loxy and Jox the foxes, Ernee the
dingo and many more!
Visitors can walk amongst and hand feed gentle alpacas - domestic animals from
South America bred for their luxurious wool. As they breed all year round there
are usually new babies on view. A set of extremely rare (1 in 50,000) twin
alpacas were born on the farm in June 2004 - the first in WA!
Visitors are welcome to pat the friendly koalas Ned, Henry and Banjo and 10 am
feed time is the best time to see them awake.
Two or three orphaned kangaroo joeys are hand-raised each year and, depending on
their age, they are either tucked up in their sleeping bag in the shop or
roaming freely around the farm. They get their bottle at 3 pm daily, along with the other farm babies –
usually calves, goats, lambs and piglets.
Group bookings, coach tours, social groups and school excursions are all welcome; overseas tourists in
particular love being able to touch Australian wildlife!
The huge craft gallery features ceramics and art by Wendy Binks plus other
souvenir items. The Alpaca boutique has alpaca fleece and yarn and hundreds of
exquisite alpaca garments, from beanies to jumpers.
A kiosk is open all year with the café open during school holidays and for group
bookings. There is also a shady picnic area with gas BBQs. There are lovely
gardens to walk amongst, lawns to relax on and forest and ocean views.
Two small farm dams are stocked with rainbow trout – bring your own rod or hire
one at the shop and try your luck!
